Laura Williams (b.1965) is a contemporary artist working primarily in paint who lives and works in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. With an MA in sociology (achieved with first class honours) from Auckland University (2005), Williams' work is socially oriented, often exploring themes around relationships, identity and biblical narratives.

 

Williams first exhibited her work in 2013 with The Kriesler Gallery in Melbourne and over the past nine years has had nine solo exhibitions across New Zealand, Australia and the United States. In 2018 Williams was awarded the ChaNorth artist residency in Hudson Valley, New York and upon her return, Williams was featured in Art New Zealand Magazine with an article by Kyla Mackenzie

 

In 2022 Williams has been featured in Art Zone magazine, had a solo exhibition with Page Galleries in August, was presented at Aotearoa Art Fair with Laree Payne Gallery and undertook a month-long residency at the Golden Foundation Artist Residency, New York.

 

Currently Laura is working on new works for her solo shows planned with both Laree Payne Gallery and Page Galleries in 2023.
