Laura Williams (b.1965) is a contemporary artist working primarily in paint who lives and works in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. With an MA in sociology (achieved with first class honours) from Auckland University (2005), Williams' work is socially oriented, often exploring themes around relationships, identity and biblical narratives.
Williams first exhibited her work in 2013 with The Kriesler Gallery in Melbourne and over the past nine years has had nine solo exhibitions across New Zealand, Australia and the United States. In 2018 Williams was awarded the ChaNorth artist residency in Hudson Valley, New York and upon her return, Williams was featured in Art New Zealand Magazine with an article by Kyla Mackenzie
This year Williams has a solo exhibition with Page Galleries in August followed by a presentation with Laree Payne Gallery at the Aotearoa Art Fair in November. Williams is also undertaking a month-long residency in October at the Golden Foundation Artist Residency, New York.
